THE VIOLET SOCIETY

Operations Lead, Employee #1

“I expect some incredible companies and people to come out of The Violet Society -

I’m very impressed with what Shriya has achieved thus far and I can’t wait to see what’s to come"

- Erik Torenberg, Co-Founder & Partner at Village Global

Operations Lead, Employee #1

San Francisco, CA (no remote position available)

About Us:

The Violet Society is a unique career mentorship community for ambitious female and non-binary people. Our mission is to close the gender gap in business leadership, starting with the tech industry, by facilitating tight-knit, lifelong relationships with peers at every career stage.

We’re inspired by feminist communities like The Wing & Girlboss but our long-term vision is to build a global pipeline of talent that helps more underrepresented people make it to the top of their industry and prevents ambitious people from leaving tech.

We have an NPS of 76, are profitable, and grew our revenue 4X in the past year without outside investment.

What We’ve Done:

  • Ran/are running 7 ten-week high-touch, in-person cohorts of 100 total founders, PMs, and Engineers

  • Each individual has spent at least 40 hours engaged in our programs

  • Hosted 2 hackathons at Domino Data Lab & GitHub with over 250 total attendees

What We Are Going to Do:

  • Raise institutional capital to rapidly scale our programs to additional verticals and cities.

  • Launch UltraViolet programs for executives and later-stage founders.

  • Open our own loft spaces to host our programs plus coaching, workshops, courses, guest speakers, and more.

About the role:

As the first full-time employee at The Violet Society, you’ll work directly with Shriya Nevatia, the Founder & CEO, to scale our Fellowship programs while laying the groundwork for our long-term projects.

We’re looking for a force of nature; someone who will do whatever it takes — both strategically & tactically — to make a massive positive impact on our members’ lives and grow the company into a global movement.

Responsibilities:

  • Work autonomously to develop new projects and potential revenue streams

  • Design & launch pilot UltraViolet executive programs

  • Scale Violet Fellowship & UltraViolet experiences to new markets

  • Find members, speakers, venues, sponsors, and corporate partners to fuel growth.

  • Facilitate 3-hour in-person peer mentorship meetings in downtown San Francisco on weeknights which include interviewing guest speakers, facilitating workshops, and conducting icebreaker activities.

Note: This role operates beyond traditional hours and will involve evening & weekend commitments.

Growth Potential:

  • Meet and interview tech leaders & future leaders on a regular basis as part of your day-to-day job.

  • Impact thousands of lives for the better, and develop strong relationships with future industry leaders.

  • The more you contribute in this role, the more visibility & growth you’ll have in the larger tech world.

  • If you demonstrate outstanding leadership and commitment, this role can grow into an executive position as the company scales.

Experience Desired:

  • Have started a startup either as a side project or full-time, worked at a startup as an early employee, or worked in venture capital

  • Have event organizing and/or community management experience

  • BA/BS or Bootcamp education in Computer Science, Design, Business, or another technology-related field

  • (nice-to-have) Have teaching or tutoring experience

Note: Don’t let a lack of any above qualification stop you; if you’re intrigued by this role, apply! ;)

Character Qualities Desired:

  • Comfortable with uncertainty and ambiguity in a constantly evolving startup environment

  • Extremely honest & not afraid to be vulnerable

  • Endlessly curious; live and breathe the tech industry

  • Energized by working under pressure and extremely detail-oriented

  • Ready to be “all in” and will reliably follow through with commitments

  • Willing to get your hands dirty & take on any task needed, however small

  • Serious about inclusion and creating a safe space for diverse individuals

Why Join Us:

  • Get a market-aligned base salary with generous equity in keeping with the importance of this role.

  • Have a massive impact on the product & future direction of our business.

  • Get the experience of an early-stage startup, but join a post-traction product with a proven track record.

A Day in the Life:

Every day will be different, but here’s an example of what one might look like

  • 9:30-10:00 am - Plan top 3 priorities for the day

  • 10:00-10:15 am - Morning stand-up at The Wing

  • 10:15-12:00 pm - 3 video calls with potential speakers who are executives/founders from One Medical, Airbnb, and a YC-backed Series A startup

  • 12:00-1:30 pm - Lunch with a Violet Product Fellowship member, advising them on career decisions & gathering feedback about future Violet programs

  • 1:30-3:00 pm - Writing up a strategy deck for a Coinbase partner event to help the company connect with Violet Engineering Fellowship members

  • 3:00-4:30 pm - Go to an afternoon workout class & take a break

  • 4:30-5:00 pm - Answer a Founder Fellowship member call to help them deal with a co-founder breakup

  • 5:00-5:30 pm - Listen to a podcast interview with this evening’s guest to prepare for tonight’s fireside chat

  • 5:30-6:15pm - Get to the meeting venue early and answer some emails

  • 6:15-9:45 pm - Run the Fellowship meeting: start off with a fun improv exercise, interview a talented guest speaker, and then facilitate a Mastermind session

  • 9:45-10:00 pm - Send tonight’s Fellowship members a wrap email from the evening

  • 10:00-10:15 pm - Write up a reflection of what went well today & what could have been improved

  • 10:15-10:45 pm - Read a chapter of Brotopia to round out a productive day
